Writing Program: Awakening Potential For Writing Success
Awakening Potential for Writing Success is an Orton-Gillingham based program has everything needed to support students in developing and enhancing their writing skills. This program is particularly effective for students with dyslexia and learning disabilities.
Writing concepts and skills are made simple through direct and systematic instruction. Fun and colorful organizers will guide students in using the main processes of writing (planning, drafting, revising, editing). Students will learn how to plan and organize their ideas, use transitions correctly and effectively, use descriptive words to add interest to their writing, revise and edit for punctuation and spelling. They will learn how to write 5 sentence paragraphs, as well as 5 paragraph essays. They will also learn the structure of writing a good fiction story.
Awakening Potential For Reading Success will give you everything you need to teach a child to become an effective writer.

Planning and Organizing Writing: The Cake Paragraph Graphic Organizer
The Cake Paragraph is a fun way for students to plan and organize their writing for five sentence paragraphs and other similar writing formats.
This planner helps students to plan and construct a complete 5 sentence paragraph:
-Topic Sentence
-First Detail Sentence
-Second Detail Sentence
-Third Detail Sentence
-Conclusion Sentence
Students love to ‘eat the cake’ (cross off with an erasable marker) on each section as they complete it in their writing. With the Cake Paragraph, students can make their writing delicious!
Cake Paragraph Essay: 5 Paragraph Essay Graphic Organizer for Writing
The Cake Paragraph Essay is an incredibly helpful graphic organizer for supporting students with planning and organizing their writing for the 5 paragraph essay format. All of the elements of each paragraph correspond to different parts of the cake (which makes it a wonderful transition from the Cake Paragraph organizer).
Students can use this organizer for planning out their ideas before writing their rough draft.
5 paragraph essay format:
-Introduction paragraph with attention grabber, thesis statement, intro to details, and lead-in sentence
-3 body paragraphs with topic sentence, 3 detail sentences, and conclusion sentence

This graphic organizer makes the revising and editing process fun! Students love to choose ‘juicy’ or descriptive words for their writing (and pick what flavor of juice he will use).
All aspects of the revising and editing process are included:
-‘Juicy’ words (descriptive words)
-Transitions
-Capitalization
-Punctuation (commas, apostrophes, periods)
-Spelling
Students love to cross off each letter in the acronym as they complete it in their writing. And they love it when Juicy T. C.A.P.S. gets to drink his juice (laminate the sheet and they can use erasable markers to fill and empty his cup)!
